Sustainability Scientist/Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking an Sustainability Scientist/Engineer. You will work with clients directly to understand their challenges and the scope of their requirements, develop and maintain air emission inventories, and prepare regulatory reports. These customers will count on your work. You will work with clients to estimate, track, report, and manage their air emissions, using our technology platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work independently and analyze large volumes of data to provide high quality regulatory reporting services
  • Develop and maintain air emission inventories, and prepare regulatory reports
  • Work with third party verifiers to support verification processes
  • Quantify GHG and air emissions in accordance with various regulatory frameworks, such as Alberta TIER, BC GHG Reporting Regulation, ECCC OBPS, and the US EPA GHGRP
  • Lead the quantification and verification of Scopes 1, 2, and 3 GHG inventories
  • Lead climate change risk assessment and adaptation planning, guiding clients through sustainability strategies, sustainability reporting, and workshops
  • Prepare detailed proposals for projects in GHG quantification and verification, climate change adaptation planning, sustainability, and air quality consulting

Qualifications

  • University degree in engineering, and/or science.
  • Solid working knowledge of a wide range of environmental management issues associated with emissions, permitting, approvals, and reporting
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable Federal and Provincial air regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong trouble shooting, decision-making abilities and project management experience
  • Ability to work collaboratively and driven to achieve results.
  • Proficient with Excel handling large datasets and working with complex functions to manage data sets.
  • Experience with GHG quantification and verification across Canada and/or international (OBPS, EPS, and Alberta TIER, GHG Protocol)

Skills

  • Proficient in handling quantitative data, including collection, cleaning, consolidation, analysis, and synthesis of large datasets to derive actionable insights.
  • Strong passion and demonstrated understanding of environmental issues, frameworks, programs, and multi-stakeholder initiatives (e.g., ESG reports, CDP Climate, and the Science Based Targets initiative).
  • Track record of working with greenhouse gas inventories, and familiarity with greenhouse gas protocols, accounting standards, and reporting regulations (Scope 3 experience preferred).
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural/functional environment, with a track record of operational effectiveness, innovation, and collaboration with diverse teams and remote relationships.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple way that will impart detailed insights and build consensus that delivers results.
  • Highly proficient in use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Experience with Power Query, Python and/or other data manipulation tools highly beneficial.
